These are the types of things I find myself pondering at night. It doesn’t take long to plumb the depths of my brain these days apparently.
I played hooky yesterday afternoon. I haven’t played hooky in awhile and it was everything I imagined it would be. Sorry if I’m ratting anyone out but two other lovely ladies played hooky with me – my mom and my sister-in-law Stephanie. We had a “ladies lunch” at Corner Bakery and spent the afternoon chatting without any kid-type interruptions (e.g. pumping, feeding, diapering, shushing, ect.). Shared frustrations, highlights, pictures and laughs. I can’t wait to do it again!
After 3.5 hours of chatting I went home to wait for Ricardo, then we picked up the kids, ran into the grocery store while the kids and Ricardo waited in the car and then had an interesting conversation with Jimmy on the way home.
Me: “Jimmy, do you like rock’n’roll?
Jimmy: “Yeeeeaaaah. Imma play the guitar, Daddy’s gonna play the drums and Joey play the tuba.”
Me: “Joey’s going to play the tuba?”
Jimmy: “Yeeeeaaaah. (gibberish, gibberish, mumble, mumble)”
Jimmy: “Mamma! Behind us! The rock is behind us and it’s going to eat us!”
Me (exchanging looks with Ricardo): “The rock is behind us and it’s going to eat us?”
Jimmy: “(gibberish) two bastards.”
Me (staring at Ricardo meaningfully): “WHAT??”
Jimmy: “The bastards are going to blast the rock behind us. It’s going to eat us!”
Me (in a moment of Mommy clarity): “Ohhhh! The CROC is behind us and going to eat us but you have two BLASTERS and are going to blast the CROC??”
The evening proceeded as normal. Making dinner while the boys chased each other around screaming and laughing and the occasional tantrum and tears. Ricardo chilling on the couch with Lilly. Trying to feed Jimmy spaghetti (which is of the devil apparently) while Joey downed his. Getting baby kisses from Lilly and Joey and real kisses from Jimmy. Lilly falling asleep in my arms. Shifting her to Ricardo’s arms so I can change the boys into their PJs. Putting Joey to bed. Letting Jimmy watch cartoons in bed a little longer. Worrying that it’s too quiet. Nope, everyone is being good tonight. Putting Lilly in bed.
And finally getting in bed ourselves and topped the perfect day of hooky and family off with a kiss from my sweetheart and his nightly fart(s). It’s routine now and would be weird without them. I lay there in my exhausted bliss wondering if we’ll fart in heaven. Wouldn’t be heaven without them.
